Professor in the Department of Food Science. Nutrition and Technology of the University of Nairobi, Director at GS1 Kenya

Professor Michael W. Okoth is a Chemical Engineer and Professor of Food Science at the University of Nairobi, specializing in Food Process Engineering. With a PhD from ETH Zurich, he has over three decades of experience in research, teaching, and consultancy across Kenya’s food and agricultural industries.

He has published extensively, supervised numerous PhD and MSc students, and served in leadership roles including Chairman of the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology. Prof. Okoth is also a member of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of KeSEBAE, and serves on the Board of GS1 Kenya, where he actively supports strategic governance and industry advancement.

Dr. Jerusha Kamau is a pharmaceutical compliance expert with over 10 years’ experience in pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and capacity building. She is the CEO and Founder of Jeyflex Consultants Ltd, a leading pharmaceutical compliance consulting firm in Kenya.

As Director in charge of the Healthcare Sector at GS1 Kenya and a Board Member, she champions the adoption of track-and-trace solutions for medical products across the East African region. Dr. Kamau is also authoring the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Handbook: A Definitive Drug Registration Guide for Regulatory Practitioners, further cementing her leadership in regulatory science and healthcare innovation.

Mr. Charles Owiti is the Counsellor at GS1 Kenya, bringing over 20 years of experience in commercial and legal affairs in transport, shipping, and logistics across East Africa. He has advised both international and regional companies on compliance, governance, and strategic growth.

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 2003, he is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Charles holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies. He is highly skilled in customs and logistics law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and international arbitration. At GS1 Kenya, he provides legal counsel and strategic guidance, helping to strengthen governance, ensure compliance, and advance GS1’s mission in Kenya and the region.

Dr. Fred M. Siyoi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Kenya’s national drug regulatory authority. A pharmacist by profession with a degree from the University of Nairobi, he has over 30 years of experience in pharmacy practice, regulation, and policy.

Since 2016, he has led PPB in strengthening compliance, pharmacovigilance, and adoption of global regulatory standards. He is a strong advocate for digitization in healthcare regulation to enhance efficiency and patient safety. Dr. Siyoi also serves as a Board Member of GS1 Kenya, championing traceability and standards in the pharmaceutical sector.

Mr. Renaud, a digital- first leader, is recognized for advancing global supply chain interoperability and trusted product data exchange. Arnaud combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision to advance trusted data-sharing in e-commerce worldwide.

His career spans leadership in project management, agile coaching, and financial technology, with experience at Shadow Financial Systems, Legg Mason Technology Services, and Evaluation Associates. He brings proven expertise in building global data solutions, process optimization, and stakeholder engagement. Michael holds an MBA in Management and Finance from the University of Connecticut and a BA in Economics from Fairfield University.

She currently leads public engagement, advocacy, government relations both local and international, and stakeholder partnerships, while also spearheading GS1 Kenya’s media and marketing initiatives, including Traceability TV. In her role, she provides strategic oversight of the organization’s operations and departmental functions, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and goals. Eva holds a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management and a Master’s degree in Diplomacy, Development and International Security.

In this leadership role, he drives the promotion and adoption of GS1 Standards across key sectors, including Healthcare, Construction, Academia, and Transport & Logistics.

He works closely with stakeholders through capacity-building and awareness initiatives that strengthen supply chain efficiency, interoperability, and traceability. With extensive experience in the technical implementation of GS1 Standards, Nelson has successfully led and contributed to numerous industry integration projects. He is scholar in Information Technology and Business Administration, providing him with a strong foundation for advancing traceability solutions in Kenya.

At GS1 Kenya, he promotes the adoption of GS1 Standards through membership onboarding, 2D barcodes, and traceability solutions. Joseph has led key projects such as Archive, Warehouse, and Asset Management systems, the Datem Security platform, and the Hakikisha Bidhaa initiative. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and is a Certified Data Analyst.
