Francesca Poggiali is VP for Global Public Policy at GS1 after several years as Chief Public Policy Officer Europe. Her career includes a mixture of public and private sectors experience within Ferrero, the European Commission and Parliament and a couple of trade associations. Passionate about International Law and Sustainability, she studied Corporate Social Responsibility at the Harvard Business School, and International and European Law in the UK and Italy where she received the highest recognition cum laude. Among her biggest achievements so far: the corporate social responsibility program for Ferrero International, the convergence of environmental protection and chemical industry impacts in the framework of the EU Chemical reform, the fight against illicit trade and digital product passports through open non-proprietary standards for GS1

A graduated Software Engineer with a Master's degree in Public Relations, Nora combines technical depth with strategic communication skills to drive engagement and transformation across industries and Member Organisations. Driven by a deep belief that empowered Members are the key to a thriving GS1 community, Nora has led high-impact initiatives in Marketing, Branding, and Industry, including Retail, Rail, Transport & Logistics, and Customs. From launching global networks focused on branding, standards, and Member development, her work blends technical expertise with a passion for sustainable, global, regional, and local capacity building. Since April 2025, Nora has joined the GS1 Global Office Public Policy team, with a focus on Europe, working with GS1 in Europe and its great team, and the 49 MOs helping develop policies that use global standards to boost trade, transparency, and digital innovation

Professor Michael W. Okoth is a Chemical Engineer and Professor of Food Science at the University of Nairobi, specializing in Food Process Engineering. With a PhD from ETH Zurich, he has over three decades of experience in research, teaching, and consultancy across Kenya’s food and agricultural industries.

He has published extensively, supervised numerous PhD and MSc students, and served in leadership roles including Chairman of the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology. Prof. Okoth is also a member of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of KeSEBAE, and serves on the Board of GS1 Kenya, where he actively supports strategic governance and industry advancement.

Dr. Jerusha Kamau is a pharmaceutical compliance expert with over 10 years’ experience in pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and capacity building. She is the CEO and Founder of Jeyflex Consultants Ltd, a leading pharmaceutical compliance consulting firm in Kenya.

As Director in charge of the Healthcare Sector at GS1 Kenya and a Board Member, she champions the adoption of track-and-trace solutions for medical products across the East African region. Dr. Kamau is also authoring the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Handbook: A Definitive Drug Registration Guide for Regulatory Practitioners, further cementing her leadership in regulatory science and healthcare innovation.

Mr. Charles Owiti is the Counsellor at GS1 Kenya, bringing over 20 years of experience in commercial and legal affairs in transport, shipping, and logistics across East Africa. He has advised both international and regional companies on compliance, governance, and strategic growth.

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 2003, he is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Charles holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies. He is highly skilled in customs and logistics law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and international arbitration. At GS1 Kenya, he provides legal counsel and strategic guidance, helping to strengthen governance, ensure compliance, and advance GS1’s mission in Kenya and the region.

Eng. John Tanui, CBS, is the Principal Secretary in the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy

He is the former CEO of Konza Technopolis and previously held senior roles at Huawei Technologies across East Africa. With over 17 years’ experience in ICT and international business management, he is a registered engineer, member of IEK, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Global Business Management.

Ms. Regina Akoth Ombam is an accomplished economist and public policy expert with vast experience in trade policy, health financing, and strategic planning.

She has served in senior roles at the EAC Secretariat, the National AIDS Control Council, and global health financing platforms, shaping policy and mobilizing resources. Ms. Ombam holds degrees in Economics, Anthropology, and Public Administration, and continues to drive Kenya’s trade, investment, and regional integration agenda

Dr. Fred M. Siyoi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Kenya’s national drug regulatory authority. A pharmacist by profession with a degree from the University of Nairobi, he has over 30 years of experience in pharmacy practice, regulation, and policy. Since 2016, he has led PPB in strengthening compliance, pharmacovigilance, and adoption of global regulatory standards. He is a strong advocate for digitization in healthcare regulation to enhance efficiency and patient safety.

Dr. George Lutomia is a highly accomplished and decorated author and researcher in conflict resolution and management. Serving as the County Executive Committee member (Minister) for Education in the Kakamega County Government from 2018-2022, he has played a crucial role in developing policies and procedures that promote effective and efficient management of institutions. He is participating in the GS1 GO Public Policy workshop as keynote speaker on "Why is public policy important in the region?"

Dr. Erick K. Ruto, President of KNCCI and Chairperson of the ICGLR Private Sector Forum,is a medical doctor, entrepreneur, and proprietor of Reale Group of Hospitals.

He advocates for private sector growth, trade facilitation, and healthcare advancement. He also chairs the Water Sector Trust Fund and serves on several boards, including the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation.

Engineer Sang is a seasoned professional with over 21 years of experience in the petroleum sector, where he has demonstrated expertise in engineering, project management, and strategic planning. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Production Engineering from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi, and a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

A recognized leader in his field, Eng. Sang is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (FIEK) and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), reflecting his commitment to engineering excellence and professional integrity.

Mr. John Kabuchi, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization at KEMSA, has over 20 years of experience in supply chain management and 14 years in health product procurement.

He has been instrumental in transforming KEMSA into an award-winning logistics organization, growing its throughput from USD 20M to USD 320M, and advancing global ARV procurement through the ARV Procurement Working Group.

Silvano Samoei is the Agriculture Lead at One Million Avocados, where he drives innovation in Africa’s fruit tree industry. He brings diverse experience from previous roles at ICT Authority, Glovo, and the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation. Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology from JKUAT.

Silvano combines finance, farming, and technology to strengthen agricultural supply chains. He leverages AgriTech innovations such as AI and blockchain to enhance traceability and resilience. Passionate about sustainability, he is committed to building scalable models that generate shared wealth and lasting impact.

Derrick Ngigi, HSC is the Technical Head at the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN), driving digital innovations that strengthen open data use, traceability, and farmer inclusion across East Africa. He pioneered FarmHub-FoodFarmacy, linking over 300 farmers to estates, schools, and hospitals, improving food security and market access. Derrick has led large-scale deployment of irrigation systems, solar dryers, and kitchen gardens, boosting smallholder productivity and resilience. As founder of Shambah Solutions, he introduced an AI-driven soil testing innovation reaching 6,000+ farmers and creating jobs for 60 youth agronomists. Recognized with the HSC honor, his work champions sustainability, digital adoption, and youth empowerment in agriculture.

Mr. Safiq Iqbal is an experienced pharmaceutical professional with over 20 years in production management, quality assurance, and supply chain planning. He has worked with leading firms including Cosmos Limited, Vetcare Kenya, and currently Universal Corporation Limited, where he heads Production, Planning & Warehouse.

Safiq specializes in procurement forecasting, SAP-driven inventory management, and ensuring robust product life cycles. He has also ventured into entrepreneurship through Infinite Care Pharmacy and Infinite Wheels Ltd. Safiq holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, India.

Valentine Nyagah is the IT Manager at Isinya Group, with a strong track record in leveraging technology to advance agriculture. Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Valentine has led transformative digital initiatives in floriculture and apiculture. Their work focuses on enhancing farm operations, supply chain transparency, and sustainable agricultural practices. By introducing innovative information systems and digital infrastructure, Valentine empowers growers and beekeepers to optimize productivity. Known for a strategic yet hands-on approach, they bridge the gap between technology and nature. Valentine continues to drive growth and resilience in agriculture through smart digital adoption.

Dr. Dan Mugera is a Certified Coach, Speaker, and Counselor with global credentials including the John Maxwell Team-USA, EQUIP-USA, and Light University-USA.

He is the founder of Dan Mugera & Associates and the African Centre for Public Speaking, having trained over 2,000 professionals in leadership and communication. Dan has spoken at international conferences across Africa, the USA, Europe, and Asia, and currently leads the Counseling Department at CITAM Karen. He is also an author of two books and holds a Doctorate degree in Peace and Conflict.

Renaud de Barbuat is the President and Chief Executive Officer of GS1 Global, appointed in July 2022. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer of GS1, where he led global programmes and digital transformation initiatives like the modernization of the GS1 Registry Platform. Before joining GS1, he was the Chief Information Officer at Carrefour, one of the world’s largest retailers.

In this role, he drove omni-channel digital transformation, leveraging big data, cloud, blockchain, and GS1 Standards. He has over 30 years of leadership experience in information systems, retail, and consumer goods. Mr. Renaud, a digital- first leader, is recognized for advancing global supply chain interoperability and trusted product data exchange. He continues to champion GS1’s vision for next-generation barcodes and digital-first supply chains. Through his outstanding leadership, GS1 strengthens its global role in enabling efficiency, transparency, and innovation across industries.

Mr. Robert Beidman is the Chief Product Officer at GS1, leading the global team responsible for data services, standards, and innovations that enable industries to thrive in the digital era.

With extensive experience in product management, systems engineering, sales, consulting, R&D, and machine learning/BI design, he brings a collaborative, consultative approach to leadership. His work focuses on transforming supply chains and logistics through GS1’s global solutions.

Ms. Stephanie van Rossum is the Head of Marketing at GS1, with over 20 years of experience in FMCG and non-profit organizations.

She spent nearly 18 years at Procter & Gamble in global R&D, regional brand management, go-to-market strategy, and media/digital leadership across Europe. For the past 4+ years, she has led industry engagement at GS1, enabling adoption of GS1 Standards and services. A multicultural leader fluent in French, Dutch, and English, she is passionate about team development, coaching, and training.

Ms. Sara Cavallucci is the Director of Customer Service and Training at GS1, with over 20 years of experience leading complex projects and multicultural teams at both international and local levels.

She has designed innovative training strategies, introduced new technologies, and implemented engaging learning solutions to enhance organizational capabilities. In customer service management, Sara has consistently elevated satisfaction levels above 96% while maintaining operational efficiency, transforming challenges into opportunities and driving sustainable results.

Mr. Arnaud Bonnefoy is the Director of Marketplaces and E-commerce at GS1, where he leads initiatives to strengthen product information and digital transparency in global trade. He has over 15 years of experience in strategic marketing, product management, and digital transformation.

At GS1 France, he was instrumental in designing and launching innovative solutions such as Verified by GS1, SmartSearch, and CodeOnline. His career includes senior consulting roles at EY-Parthenon and DXC Technology, where he advised multinational companies on e-commerce, customer experience, and IT transformation. Arnaud combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision to advance trusted data-sharing in e-commerce worldwide.

Michael James is the Community Engagement Director at GS1, where he leads the creation of the global GLN Registry within the GS1 Registry Platform. With nearly eight years at GS1, he previously spearheaded the multinational rollout of Verified by GS1 as Global Product Data Manager.

His career spans leadership in project management, agile coaching, and financial technology, with experience at Shadow Financial Systems, Legg Mason Technology Services, and Evaluation Associates. He brings proven expertise in building global data solutions, process optimization, and stakeholder engagement. Michael holds an MBA in Management and Finance from the University of Connecticut and a BA in Economics from Fairfield University.

Mr. Chris Liu is the Programmes Sector Engagement Director at GS1, passionate about driving meaningful change through scalable, trusted data solutions.

With deep expertise in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and digital transformation, he works closely with industry leaders and regulators to enhance supply chain transparency, efficiency, sustainability, and compliance. Chris thrives at bridging technical solutions with practical industry needs, enabling organizations to navigate change and build greater customer trust.

Ms. Eva Buyu is the General Manager of GS1 Kenya, with over 10 years of experience in the organization. Rising through the ranks from intern to leadership, she has grown into a dynamic manager and leader in communications and public engagement.

She currently leads public engagement, advocacy, government relations both local and international, and stakeholder partnerships, while also spearheading GS1 Kenya’s media and marketing initiatives, including Traceability TV. In her role, she provides strategic oversight of the organization’s operations and departmental functions, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and goals. Eva holds a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management and a Master’s degree in Diplomacy, Development and International Security.

Nelson John Uyirwoth has been with GS1 Kenya for seven years and currently serves as the Team Leader for Industrial Engagement. In this leadership role, he drives the promotion and adoption of GS1 Standards across key sectors, including Healthcare, Construction, Academia, and Transport & Logistics.

He works closely with stakeholders through capacity-building and awareness initiatives that strengthen supply chain efficiency, interoperability, and traceability. With extensive experience in the technical implementation of GS1 Standards, Nelson has successfully led and contributed to numerous industry integration projects. He is scholar in Information Technology and Business Administration, providing him with a strong foundation for advancing traceability solutions in Kenya.

Mr. Joseph Oloo is the Team Leader for Software and Data Services at GS1 Kenya, with over 10 years of experience in the technology field.

He specializes in software engineering, mobile applications, artificial intelligence, data analysis, and IT consultancy. At GS1 Kenya, he promotes the adoption of GS1 Standards through membership onboarding, 2D barcodes, and traceability solutions. Joseph has led key projects such as Archive, Warehouse, and Asset Management systems, the Datem Security platform, and the Hakikisha Bidhaa initiative. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and is a Certified Data Analyst.

Mr. Stephen Owili is the PR and Media Executive at GS1 Kenya, where he works to strengthen the organization’s visibility and profile.
